Perast

In 1698, Petar I sent 70 students to Perast where the famous naval school of Capitan Vuk Markov Martinović was located. Many seafarers from Perast became admirals of the Baltic Fleet. The town never fell into the Ottoman Empire rule, which is evidenced by the monument – rifle in the castle Visković. Palace Bujević is a valuable and historic monument, the town museum is currently located there.

There are beautiful monuments, churches, chapels and bell towers, luxurious palaces of Bokel culture in the town.
Summer heat is cooled by the breeze from Verige. Opposite of the town, there are two picturesque islands – Saint Đurađ, shaped by the nature – and there is a famous church from the 17th century on it, as well as ancient abbey from the 12th century – and an artificial island Our Lady of the Rocks, with sacred sanctuary for seafarers by the same name. Beginning in the middle of the 15th century, the inhabitants regularly showered a small cliff with stones; the custom that survived to this day. Current area of the island is 3030 km².
